I completely redid my first tank because of crypt takeover. You’re about halfway there.
In my current tank, crypts are separated from the substrate by the plastic bottom half of a Coke bottle.
Other plants that can take over the entire tank if left unchecked: pearlweed and guppy grass. But at least those are easier to uproot. Crypts have very deep, very strong roots.
