I think it looks really good. I don’t have a lid and haven’t had any issues. Only thing about no lid is evaporation but no biggy. Maybe add some more tall plants in the back and a large anubias that can cover some of the wood so they have little hiding spots. Leaf litter would also be really good because if they have lil babies they have places to hide too. Yes floating plants are great. I like frogsbit way more than duckweed because it doesn’t multiply as fast and way easier to remove if you get tired of it
