  1. *API ALGAEFIX algae control effectively controls many types of algae in aquariums and will not harm to your fish or plants when used as directed. You can use ALGAEFIX algae control as part of your aquarium maintenance routine to control the formation of new algae. Weekly doses will control algae growth and reduce aquarium maintenance.* ***CAUTION: Do not use with freshwater crustaceans including shrimp, crabs, and lobsters.***

I think it says it all right there.

  2. It’ll probably kill other crustaceans as well. Also might kill your fish, so I don’t recommend using it. This is the worst way to deal with algae.

Tackle algae problems at the root cause. Cut down lighting hours and/or intensity. Make sure there aren’t excess nutrients (grow plants, don’t overfeed the animals, make sure the plants have enough potassium). If all that remains is some algae that you don’t want on plant leaves, spot treatments can be done with 3% hydrogen peroxide or liquid carbon.

Do keep in mind that new tanks will naturally have algae blooms and don’t always need action. Sometimes it just needs time for everything to settle.
