  1. I think it’s a good idea to wait until you get the GH and KH tests. Without knowing those numbers, it’s hard to decide on a course of action.

  2. I’d not use any softened water with freshwater shrimp, given the sodium ions.

    I’d access the tap water upstream/before the softener system (or sometimes outdoor taps avoid the softener). If that water is too hard, I’d dilute it with RO or distilled water to get into healthy ranges.

    When you move, you need to test the new water, municipal water is typically controlled more and will likely be within healthy ranges by default.

  3. Have you tested water out of your tap just sitting in a cup?

    My tap also comes out at 7ph but at resting hit nearly 8.5 without it being in my tank. It may not be your plants.

    I also have massive dgh and dkg and tds so a ph swing was weird for me too

    Currently I am doing half RO and half tap.My “transition period” would be water changing half the tank water with a mix of 50% tap and 50% RO
    leading to 25% RO overall in the tank.
