You can add other epiphytes if you don’t want want to use root tabs. Though it’s really not too bad to commit to a few tabs every month or so, depending on what you’re planting.
Shrimp would be fine in it. You don’t need plants, but theyre nice for hiding in, especially if youre planning on adding other fish. If you did, yea, get root tabs.
