That’s plenty of surface agitation for oxygenation. But I can’t speak to if it’s enough for the water flow through the sponge.
So the air pump is rated smaller than the sponge? It should be fine, looks like there’s surface agitation which is all you need. My shrimp like hanging out on the sponge a lot so I think that’s normal
Mine take rides on the bubbles, and the babies eat off the sponge and the sponge cover that I have on my HOB filer (NEVER too much filtration!).
