I’m contemplating getting a Betta. Do you guys assume I ought to get a betta earlier than or after getting cherry shrimp?

  1. You can absolutely get lucky with a betta that is chill with shrimp, BUT you could also get my betta that is a psycho! The dude would literally try to attack shrimp through the bag when acclimating!!! Now, this is just my opinion, but I would go with a shrimp only tank, I find them to be a lot more fun to watch and care for!

  2. If you’re going to id definitely add the shrimp first. Long enough they should be breeding by the time the betta is in the tank

  3. Tank mates should always go in before the aggressive player

  4. Shrimp first and have a backup plan if the betta starts eating your shrimp. Aka either accept that it’s no longer a shrimp tank or have something else set up to rehome the betta. I did this and got lucky that my betta is a scaredy cat who gets bullied by the shrimp but he’s only been in for 3 months so I know he still could develop a taste for shrimp eventually.

  5. Beta will survive if the tank isn’t fully cycled, the shrimp will want very steady water conditions

  6. I’d get shrimp first. They are so dosile compared to some Betas. Let them be in charge first. Lol

  7. I hear that dragon scale bettas can be blind. If you get one of those it may be less aggressive ¯_(ツ)_/¯ not sure though

  8. Betta fish love to bully the shrimps… don’t recommend lol but some people get lucky

  9. Get your shrimp before a betta, that way you’re not introducing shrimp into a bettas already marked off territory. I’ve had better luck getting a baby betta and they learn a lot faster that they’re supposed to be friends.

But again it’s different for everyone you might not get as lucky

  10. Always betta not to risk a betta in a shrimp tank. The odds are not good.

The type of Danio and tetra also matter. Don’t just chuck any old danio or tetra in.

Also keep an eye on the important cherry shrimp parameters of kh, gh, ph please. You’re using aquasoil with 0 kinds of plants that benefit from aquasoil, which only leaves you with the down side of it making those parameters I mentioned drop which in turn will make unhappy shrimps and nerite snail unless you are on top of remineralizing the water.
