  1. Easiest way to check is to go into a bathroom. Keep the lights off and close the door. In the pitch dark look toward the mirror and say “Bloody Mary” three times in a row. If you see them appear in the mirror behind you, they’re Bloody Mary shrimp. If not, they’re probably Sakura shrimp! 🦐

  2. Also, I know shipping can affect color as well. But, the first batch of shrimp I got didn’t look like this.

  3. So maybe. Bloody Mary shrimp have red bodies and clear exoskeletons. You could have different “grades” of Bloody Mary but I personally would be upset to receive that color if they were advertised as bright red.

I added a chart to show how they work color wise. You’ll see there are two grades there for Bloody Mary shrimp.

I would reach out to the seller and ask if this is the grade they typically sell and look at their other pictures for reviews.

  4. These are not Blood Mary’s and they aren’t even good reds…straight culls in my room.

  5. These are not bloody Mary Shrimp. I see some mid grade cherries and some Sakura grade. This being said, they are nice! And sometimes they do color up after a molt when they get into your tank and they feel comfortable and safe and they are fed well. Shipping is hard on them. But do I think they will darken into bloody Mary shrimp? I don’t think so. But please don’t blame it on the shrimp. Please keep them happy in a different tank if you don’t want to put them into a tank where you want to breed bloody Marys.

You are not alone and getting different color shrimp then you asked for. I think it happened to most of us. Recently ordered some blue jellies and they came in basically white. They colored up a little bit in my tank, but they look like snowball shrimp with a tiny tinge of blue. It is not what I wanted. The blue jellies in my tank or really blue and beautiful. So there you go. But I wasn’t about to return them. That’s really tough. I have a skittles tank anyway, so I put them in and one of them is pregnant.

So what do you think you’re going to do?

  6. Don’t look like Bloody Marys, I agree.

My Bloody Marys didn’t seem to handle a recent tank swap well, so I’m going ahead and getting some plain old, hardy outdoor-raised cherry shrimp. I’ve decided I don’t need to worry about the color in my case, I just want happy shrimp to look at.

  7. they’re likely going to color up quite a bit. happened to me, was very disappointed at first until a week later they looked beautiful

  8. Those are shrimp, yes

  9. They look more like low quality red cherries to me

  10. Those actually look like they might be severely stressed. I’ve pulled shrimp that are nearly clear out of an overcrowded bin I had and put them in an new environment and they changed to fully painted fire reds. If these are what they look like coming out of shipping I would give them some time in their new home. Once their stress levels reduce they may very well color up. Also, don’t buy shit off of eBay.

  11. They look like bloody Mary culls.

  12. Bloody Mary shrimps have clear exo and tissues are red vs other shrimps that have red exo.
