do you use copper fertilizer?
Shrimps are very sensitive to that. While trace amounts of copper is fine, over doing it will kill them off very quickly.
How big is the tank, and how many shrimps did you get.
Did you find corpses, or do you just not see half of them.
Shrimps will explore the tank at first, then get all hidey for a while. Specially if there are fish in there with them.
